History:
Born in the heavily militarized zone of the Badlands, Emma Griffin was forced to live most of her adolescent life confined in her house. Her parent’s home schooled her, having no alternative, and felt it was important to develop their daughter’s natural knack for creating music; something they both felt was largely forgotten about in the dangerous world they lived in. Little did they realize right away, that Emma’s love, and knack for music came from her mutant ability over sound.

Being forced to live with a group of paranoid humans, Emma was forced to hide her mutation and attempt to live her life without them. Emma knew nothing about the world around her, only what she was able to see off the news feeds she could overhear. Year after year passed, and the pent up urge to travel built up inside, so when Apocalypse fell and the world became momentarily safer Emma left the Badlands.

Eventually she would meet up with a mutant team dubbed X-Treme, and she would follow them back to Apocalypse Island shortly after Apocalypse’s death to bring stability to the region scorched the worst by Apocalypse’s cauterizing touch. She would remain part of X-Treme for years until the other mutant team, X-Calibre, showed up and joined forces with them to combat the rising threat of brand new Sentinels, giant robots developed by paranoid humans that have terrorized mutants during the peak of Apocalypses reign.

Here was where Emma first met Jon Prescott. She felt something about him from the start, but she couldn't put her finger on it. Marcus DelSoro, or Stalker, who became one of her best friends, introduced her to a lot of the team. In the battle against the next wave of Sentinels, she was called over to bring down a dam, and it resulted in her and Guardian being trapped underneath a pile of rubble. They were rescued, but before she got out, Emma nearly drowned in the freezing water, and that seriously scarred her psyche.

Not long after this mission, Emma was out walking, when she ran into Serena Le Monde, and ended up knocking her unconscious. She felt guilty, so brought her aboard the Blackbird, and Serena decided to stay and join the team. Emma and Serena argued from the start, and Serena's empathic abilities allowed her to read Emma's emotions and bring out the fact that she had feelings for Jon. Emma fled the ship, but was brought back by Marcus.

The next mission led the team down to the underwater city of Atlantis. Along with the rest of them, Emma was imprisoned in a cell, but after they escaped, she was instrumental in calming the crowds by projecting Captain America's voice across the city. She also conveyed messages to the team members that were fighting the giant ice worm.

On return to Muir Island, her rivalry with Serena continued, and led to Emma being pushed into the swimming pool. This scared her; instantly bringing back the memories and trauma from drowning, and she had to be rescued by Marcus and comforted by Flame. Not wishing to stay around, she went to the forest to get away, but ended up being involved in a fight with the Punisher, and saved Kaine's life.

That night, she got into a fight with Serena, which resulted in them both getting a dressing down by Jon. During their talk he finally told her that he did too have feelings for her, but that she would need to learn how to grow up before he could commit himself to her.

The next morning, the two of them were transported to the Shi'ar facility on the moon. Then she and Jon were told of the threat to the Shi'ar from the long dead emperor D’Ken, and they both agreed to help. The cosmic entity known as the Phoenix joined itself to Jon, and D’Ken was defeated.

They managed to resolve the situation, and the Phoenix transported the team back to the Earth. At the time, Emma and Bobby had been in the middle of a conversation about telepathic links, Emma was sure she could feel one in her mind, and Bobby had one with his wife from another universe, the X-Treme leader, Rebecca.

The Phoenix used Guardian's body to find out more about emotions and feelings, and kissed Emma, who rejected him. A short time later, she found herself talking to Marcus, and they kissed, but they both knew it wasn't what they wanted and it was broken quickly. They fell asleep in front of the TV, and the next morning headed for their rooms to get some sleep. Emma persuaded Marcus to walk past Jon's room with her to check on him, but the sight of him and Serena coming out of the room greeted them. With a scream of pain, Emma ran away, found Knight, and left the island.

Unknown to any of them, the school where Knight's daughter was being educated was also home to the Hellfire Club, and a resurrected Apocalypse. Emma was captured, and the White Queen used her telepathy to turn Emma into a member of the Hellfire Club. Under the new name of Dischord, Emma fought against those she had held dear.

First were the Avengers, and during the battle Emma almost killed Iron Man. On the return to the school, she angrily told the Club what she thought of them, and then left in a huff. The night after, she reverted to herself, and called Muir Island in a panic. She was discovered by Banner and Sable, and changed back to Dischord. The X-Calibre member, Rune, one of Emma's friends and one of the guys she used to like to flirt with, came to the school, and was beaten by Sable and Dischord.

The Hobgoblin, enraged by Emma's hypocritical and insolent behavior, terrified her and showed her who was boss by attacking her with his new goblin glider, and injecting her with a substance that would kill her if not stopped. After slapping her and telling her her place, he mixed their blood, and stopped the flow of the demonic poison, and scarred her for life.

Emma was finally freed from the Hellfire Clubs control, and returned to X-Calibre where she would move on to battle against a Herald of Galacuts, Nova. She would also be one of the few survivors of the Nightmare Massacre, but the continued trauma would force her to leave X-Calibre and get her life sorted out.
