Muir Island is a military complex located off the coast of Scotland. While, it is now the home for life, it was a home for death as a Sentinel Processing Plant created by Moira McTaggert. It produced thousands of the mutant hunting robots to protect the human settlements in Europe and Africa, much more than the German counterparts. Muir Island's facilities remain largely intact as opposed to the German plants that were completely obliterated after the fall of Apocalypse.
When the war ended the humans, saw a way to use these technological marvel's to exterminate all of the mutants. The plant remained active until Kristen Kross had an encounter with one of the mutant prisoners, Phenix Creed, and found out that she also was a mutant.
Kristen Kross was the young prodigy of the plant; she absorbed everything about the technology she was exposed to. Little did she know that her natural knowledge of machines came from her genes: she was a technopath. After medical confirmation of Kross' genes, she realized that she would too be hunted down. This result was not acceptable.
Using all of her resources, Kross interfaced with Mastermold and shut the plant down. The humans fled the island in fear for their lives when the mutants were released from their prisons with hate filling their beings. The mutants who remained on Muir Island made no hesitation in destroying the plants assembly lines and everything associated with it.
The few remaining X-Men left over from the war with Apocalypse had stationed themselves around the world to bring down the rest of Apocalypse's followers, to ensure the future of the world, while leaving the present unprotected.
Seeing this as a new haven, Nightcrawler got permission from Kross to make Muir Island his base of operations, and so began X-Calibre.

Celica Reyes is a trained doctor and a mutant. Mercury, her assistant, is a born healer. Together they both have agreed to run the Muir Island Infirmary. Their only price is protection.

Braddock and Narya, mutants, are certified teachers who were able to hide their mutant abilities at the aid of the Human High Council. Meggan is a metamorph who has spent much of her time educating people. Both agreed to teach the young of Muir Island for no price.
